Assistant Professor Kate Page Awarded NSF CAREER Grant

Materials Science and Engineering Assistant Professor Katharine Page has been awarded a National Science Foundation CAREER grant for a proposal titled, “Tuning Complexity in Rare-Earth Transition Metal Oxides”.  She joins a very select company of University of Tennessee faculty who have won both the NSF CAREER award and the Department of Energy CAREER award.  NSF CAREER grants must satisfy an intellectual merit and broader impact criteria.  Professor Page’s ground-breaking science seeks to synthesize and characterize materials with engineered atomic scale disorder for unique electronic properties.  Her outreach work includes introducing key topics of her research, such as the crystal structure of materials to young girls, even if it means science projects that had to be mailed home with sessions conducted via zoom due to the pandemic.
