Since June 1, 2020, MSE assistant professor Orlando Rios has had four patents issued. These patents showcase Prof. Rios’s broad activity in materials as they range from (1) silicon/carbon electrodes for high-performance batteries, (2) electromagnetic heated nozzles for additive manufacturing, (3) 3D printing methods for aluminum alloys containing rare earth elements, and (4) composite feeds for 3D printing of magnets. These recent additions over the past few months raise Prof. Rios’s total to 26 patents! Not bad for having been on the UTK faculty for just over a month. Prof. Rios intends to bring this entrepreneurial spirit to the MSE department both in the research laboratory and the classroom.
Congratulations to Prof. Rios on this achievement.
