MSE’s Melanie Buziak Named to American Society of Materials’ (ASM) Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Awareness (IDEA) Committee

UTK MSE student, Melanie Buziak, has been appointed a member of the Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Awareness (IDEA) Committee effective 9/1/2020 for a term through 8/31/2023. As a member of the Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Awareness (IDEA) Committee, Melanie will play an important role in working with the ASM Board, committees, and staff in implementing the ASM Strategic Plan.  ASM’s committees and councils are a key component in making the plans a reality for the ASM Membership.

Melanie also is featured in the 2020 Material Advantage Brochure (click here for PDF download) where she is quoted, “My Material Advantage Chapter received full funding to attend Material Advantage’s Congressional Visits Day (CVD) in Washington, D.C. CVD allows for materials science students to meet with representatives to advocate for research and development. Speaking with members of Congress about improving federal support encouraged me to discover my passion for STEM policy. My participation in CVD pushed me to apply and ultimately be selected for an internship in U.S. Representative Steve Cohen’s (TN-09) office.”

Congratulations to Melanie for this important appointment.
