Sims Wins TMS Professional Development Award

Research Assistant Professor Zach Sims has received a 2024 Young Leaders Professional Development Award from the Structural Material Division of The Minerals, Metals & Materials Society (TMS)—one of only three such awards given this year.

TMS is a global professional society serving minerals, metals, and materials scientists and engineers from industry, government, and academia. The Young Leaders Development Award allows members under 40 years old to contribute to the governance and long-term planning of the society.

“I find the most fulfillment in my work when I am helping others succeed,” Sims said. “This award recognizes members’ potential for future leadership within and outside of TMS. I am excited to see that my ability to use my skills to support others is being recognized.”

Sims received the award on March 4, 2024, during the TMS 2024 Annual Meeting and Exhibition in Orlando, Florida.

As a recipient of the award, Sims will become a member of the TMS Emerging Professional Committee, serve on the SMD leadership, and help judge division-sponsored student events at the next Annual Meeting and Exhibition.
