Joint MSE Professor Honored with TMS Leadership Award

Steven Zinkle, a joint MSE and Nuclear Materials professor, was honored with the TMS Leadership Award. This award is presented to individuals that demonstrate exceptional leadership in the national and international metallurgy and materials fields as a representative of an industrial, academic, governmental, or technical organization. The award will be presented at the TMS-AIME Annual Awards Ceremony to be held in Anaheim, CA, March 2 during the TMS 2022 Annual Meeting. As part of presenting this award, TMS is highlighting Dr. Zinkle’s career accomplishments and publications.

Steven Zinkle’s research revolves around Physical metallurgy of structural materials; ion and neutron irradiation effects on the microstructure, physical and mechanical properties of metals and ceramics; fusion and fission reactor materials; and deformation and fracture mechanisms. Through this research, he has a wide range of publications. Although he has served on many committees and boards, he currently sits on five: National Academies Condensed Matter and Materials Research Committee, National Academies National Materials and Manufacturing Board, Journal of Nuclear Materials where he is a senior editor, CEA Nuclear Energy Directorate in France where he is a scientific advisory committee member, and the Visiting Committee for the MIT Department of Nuclear Science and Engineering. He also holds twenty-six awards and recognitions before being given this TMS Leadership Award.
