Dr. Peter Liaw Honored with TMS Symposium: “Innovations in High Entropy Alloys and Bulk Metallic Glasses: An SMD & FMD Symposium in Honor of Peter K. Liaw”

Dr. Peter Liaw

At the 149th Annual Meeting and Exhibition of TMS held in February, 2020 in San Diego, California, the Structural Materials Division (SMD) and Functional Materials Division (FMD) co-sponsored a special symposium to honor the work of our own Prof. Peter Liaw. The symposium, titled, “Innovations in High Entropy Alloys and Bulk Metallic Glasses: An SMD & FMD Symposium in Honor of Peter K. Liaw”, included over 35 talks by researchers from across the world, including several current members of the UTK MSE faculty. Contributed talks from UTK faculty included:

  • “Research on Bulk Metallic Glasses and High Entropy Alloys” (Prof. Peter Liaw),
  • “Tensile Behavior of BCC Refractory High-entropy Alloys” (Prof. Easo George),
  • “Ductility Improvement Methodologies in Metallic Glasses and High Entropy Alloys” (Prof. Yanfei Gao),
  • “Defect Dynamics and Microstructure Evolution in High Entropy Alloys”(Prof. Yanwen Zhang),
  • “Radiation Effects in High Entropy Alloys and Bulk Metallic Glasses” (Prof. Steve Zinkle),
  • “Energy Dissipation and Damage Evolution in Irradiated Concentrated Solid Solution Alloys” (Prof. William Weber),
  • “Expanding High-entropy to Ceramics: Identifying High Entropy Oxides with Perovskite, Spinel, or Pyrochlore Structure” (Prof. Veerle Keppens) and
  • “Rejuvenation by Fatigue” (Prof. Takeshi Egami).
