Summer Profile: Madeline Maben

Pictured left to right: Dr. Jeff Bunn and Madeline Maben

MSE junior, Madeline Maben, spent the summer participating in the Undergraduate Research Student Internship (URSI) program run by the United States Department of Energy. She performed research with Dr. Jeff Bunn at the High Flux Isotope Reactor (HFIR) in Oak Ridge National Laboratory on a project titled, “Graphical User Interface Guide for Residual Stress Measurement”. As part of her project, Maddie developed a guide for the graphical user interface for the HIDRA (High Intensity Diffractometer for Residual Stress Analysis), an instrument at HFIR. The goal with creating a user guide is to help users maximize their beam time, understand how the instrument works and extract the most useful information contained within the data generated from their experiment. Regarding her experience, Maddie says, “I got to assist with neutron diffraction experiments at one of the best research reactors in the world.” Maddie is pictured here with mentor, Dr. Bunn.

Congratulations, Maddie!
