UTK Graduate Student Spotlight chooses MSE’s Mairym Vázquez

Mairym Vázquez, a doctoral student in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, currently works characterizing metal alloys, especially aluminum-cerium alloys. Mairym conducts research in the AMO Critical Materials Institute in partnership with Ames National Laboratory. Originally coming from The University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez, Mairym has a fascinating story and relationship with Materials Science. She plans on continuing her research and with the possibility of operating her own testing lab in the future. Mairym feels that materials research can positively impact the world around us by developing materials for use in alternative energy technologies and reducing carbon dioxide emissions.
