MSE Team Spirit

In addition to applying their technical skills to senior design this year, one of the MSE design teams exercised their artistic talents and presented their faculty mentor, Prof. Peter Liaw, with a unique gift.  The team composed of (left to right) Jonathan Landry, Makenna Curcuru, Kylie Berry, Alex Greenhalgh and Alex Howard, and assisted by graduate student, Hugh Shortt (far left), is spending the 2022-2023 academic year working on a project titled, “Design and Development of Refractory High-entropy Alloys with Strength and Ductility using Machine Learning”.  The industrial partner for the project is Dr. Baldur Steingrimsson of Imagars.  The students assembled a plaque with “HEAS” (High Entropy Alloys), using letters on portions of automobile license plates.  The license plates hail from Tennessee (2), Oregon and New Mexico, states with some association with their project.
