Pestovich receives First Place in We23 Competition

Kim Pestovich, a PhD student in the Materials Science & Engineering (MSE) department was one of ten finalists who presented at the Graduate Collegiate Rapid Fire Competition at We23, the annual meeting of the Society of Women Engineers Conference. We23 is the largest conference and career fair in the world for women in engineering and technology with a record-breaking 22,000 attendees this year in Los Angeles, California.

Kim gave a five-minute talk about her PhD research titled “X-ray Vision:  Discovery of New Scintillators for Improved Cargo Screening.”  For her presentation, Kim received the first-place award. This recognition is but the latest of many accolades received by the outstanding researchers in Prof. Mariya Zhuravleva’s research group at the UTK Scintillation Materials Research Center.
